Fat Herbie Wallet
Muyshondt x Ashland Fat Herbie Wallet
Tall. Thin. Top of the Top.
Big and Small
This wallet cuts an imposing figure. Tall, and wide, the Fat Herbie is a design unlike any you have likely encountered – while seemingly large, it has one unexpected ace up it’s sleeve: It is one of the thinnest wallets in existence. It can hold up to sixteen cards – four in each slot – and any cash you carry, but even when filled to the brim, a full Herbie is still thinner than an empty traditional bifold.
In leather wallets, thinness is the name of the game. Ever layer of leather, every overlapping card, every single part that stacks, has a massive impact on how easy the wallet is to carry. The Fat Herbie has only three layers of stacked leather (six total when folded shut), compared to 12 total layers in a standard 8-card bifold.
The Best from Downunder
After years of carrying bifolds, we were quickly smitten with the Fat Herbie design, and decided to work with Ashland to bring to bear a special Muyshondt version of this exceptional design:
Kangaroo is some of the strongest, thinnest leather on Earth. It’s naturally thin, and has a unique grain structure that maintains strength even in small cross sections. It has a character and feel unlike any other leather – soft and supple, yet supremely strong, and has allowed us to minimize the profile of an already thin wallet even further.
Our kangaroo is tanned in Australia, then glazed, cut, stamped, and assembled by hand by our friends at Ashland Leather, who then finish each wallet off by waxing and burnishing the edges. The result is a beautiful, thin, and strong leather wallet that will patina gracefully over time, and will be likely the last you ever need.
